Farms & Producers

Our decision to predominantly source our ingredients from local growers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan has significantly improved the quality of our product. Additionally, it aligns with our commitment to support local businesses, promote sustainability, and foster a stronger connection with our community.

Please allow us to introduce you to some of the remarkable local growers from whom we source our produce.

  • The Boersma family, led by husband and wife Matt and Nicole Boersma, play a pivotal role in our mission to create the freshest kombucha possible. Their unwavering dedication to providing pesticide-free produce perfectly aligns with our commitment to quality ingredients.

We're privileged to source our earthy notes, including carrots, fennel, and a diverse array of beets, from the Boersma family. These ingredients contribute not only to the exquisite taste of our kombucha but also to its overall quality and authenticity.

  • We are fortunate to collaborate with Beth from Circle Back Farm, who supplies us with certified organic maple confections and syrups. These exceptional maple products play a vital role in enhancing the flavor profiles of many of our cherished farmers' market favorites, imparting the sweet and nutty notes we passionately pursue.

There's an undeniable difference when it comes to using quality, hand-tapped, Upper Michigan maple. The purity of these maple products shine through in every sip.

  • A dynamic team led by the husband and wife duo, Jake and Ash. Their contributions are nothing short of pivotal in elevating our kombucha to new heights. From sourcing honey, cherries, cucumbers, and peppers, among other essential ingredients, North Harvest CSA consistently delivers top-notch produce that makes a remarkable difference in our brew.

Jake and Ash’s unwavering commitment to freshness and quality has yet to disappoint us here at the brewery.

Beyond their contributions to our product, Jake and Ash have added a wonderful layer of camaraderie. Their warmth and humor have provided us with countless memorable moments and shared laughter. It's these personal connections that truly make our collaboration with North Harvest CSA something special.

  • Whispering Wild Farm, spearheaded by the dedicated team of Josh and Gina Kerr, holds an indispensable role at our brewery. Their support and generosity go beyond the ordinary, with Josh offering valuable advice and lending a helping hand during the setup and breakdown of our farmers' market booth, all out of the goodness of his heart. Gina's subtle act of slipping us a bag of basil as a gesture of love is a testament to their genuine commitment.

Since the inception of our business, Whispering Wild Farm has been our reliable backbone. We've sourced a variety of key ingredients, including grapes, basil, lavender, and hops, from them. Their consistent quality and unwavering support have been instrumental in shaping the essence and excellence of our brewery.

  • Ghost House Farm, led by the spirited husband and wife team of Drew Cramer and Allison Mills, offers an innovative and artistic approach to sustainable agriculture. Their dedication to sustainability is not only commendable but also grounded in proper education and sound practices. Their water conservation efforts through drip irrigation showcase responsible resource management. What's more, Drew and Allison are continually striving to enhance their stewardship of the land, emphasizing a commitment to ongoing improvement.

From Ghost House Farm, we source flavorful ingredients like spicy globe basil, burdock root, fennel, cabbage, and a delightful variety of peppers, enhancing our culinary creations. Beyond the ingredients, the collaboration with Drew and Allison also brings the joy of good times and shared experiences, making it a truly special partnership.

  • Minnie Farms, expertly managed by the talented duo of Jenn and Dustin, stands out as a beacon of exceptional produce in the Keweenaw region. Their commitment to flavor and freshness is truly remarkable, and they employ a range of innovative methods to achieve these culinary heights.

One of their unique approaches involves utilizing aquaponic systems, where nutrient-rich water and the waste from koi fish are cleverly harnessed to nurture their crops. Additionally, they employ hügelkultur gardening and practice intentional early harvesting of vegetables, all aimed at maximizing flavor and quality.

From Minnie Farms, we source a variety of exquisite ingredients, including apples and mixed greens, which add distinctive flavors to our products. Our partnership goes beyond business; we've had the pleasure of engaging in delightful barter exchanges, with our kombucha for their beautiful sunflowers being a particular highlight. Furthermore, Dustin's recent initiative to provide a convenient spot for us to dispose of our kombucha byproducts at Traprock Valley demonstrates their commitment to sustainability and resourcefulness.

  • Lake Effect Farm, located in Copper Harbor, Michigan, boasts a team of incredibly talented farmers, but it was Nick and Katy who truly captured our attention. We have the privilege of working closely with them to access the freshest herbs that add a unique flair to our products.

Lake Effect Farm's very existence is a testament to a noble mission – the imperative to introduce sustainable farming and food sources to the Upper Peninsula. Their farm's namesake, the Lake Effect, generated by the thermodynamic heat bubble created by Lake Superior, is what makes it possible for them to thrive in this distinctive region, cultivating the North Coast in a zone 5b. In times of need, they've opened their doors and hearts, allowing our head brewer Alec to camp with them in Copper Harbor, ensuring easy access to our booth during Trails Fest weekend.

From Lake Effect Farm, we source a delightful array of herbs, including fresh sage, thyme, mint, and lavender.

  • Niemela's Market Gardens, lovingly operated by the Niemela family, embodies the essence of wholesome, time-honored farming traditions. This group of dedicated Finns have been diligently sowing seeds, tending to crops, and cultivating produce for the local market since their inception in 2008.

What sets them apart is their commitment to diversity. Instead of specializing in just a few types of crops, they prioritize cultivating a wide variety of vegetables, all with a steadfast dedication to local markets. Their farming philosophy is rooted in natural methods, eschewing synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides to nurture the land and crops in an eco-friendly manner. On the note of friendly mannerism, you’ll often spot James Niemela himself joshing around with the fellow vendors and chuckling at Alec’s attempts to eat Ghost House Farm’s ghost peppers.

From Niemela's Market Gardens, we source a remarkable array of ingredients, including leeks, daikon, tea blends, carrots, blueberries and a fascinating selection of mint varieties, among other herbs. These exceptional ingredients enrich our products with unique flavors and qualities.

  • Circle K Farm, guided by the leadership of James Kaiser and his wife Marybeth, brings an extraordinary touch to strawberry season that leaves a lasting impression on the entire crew at the brewery. Their approach to strawberries is truly unparalleled, and it never fails to amaze us when they arrive in their van, loaded with hundreds of pounds of locally grown strawberries.

The excitement is palpable as they pull into the market, and in the blink of an eye, their delectable berries disappear. We've learned to be early birds, making a beeline to their booth to ensure we secure at least a few flats of these exceptional berries. The flavors and quality of Circle K Farm's strawberries are simply unmatched, making them an essential ingredient in our brews.

  • Tom Rosemurgy of Keweenaw Bee Company is not only a passionate advocate for bees but also an incredibly encouraging and informative individual to engage with. His dedication to giving bees a fighting chance in our world is truly commendable.

Tom's role extends beyond simply providing us with exceptional honey. He takes great pleasure in educating people about the intricacies of managing an apiary and beekeeping, all while raising awareness about the critical state of bees in our ecosystem. His commitment to spreading knowledge and fostering a deeper connection to these vital pollinators is inspiring.

The honey Tom supplies from his apiary is nothing short of extraordinary. It has graced our brewery with some of the most delicious and distinctive flavors, notably in Gingerbee during our first two years of operation. Tom's contributions go beyond taste; they remind us of the importance of honeybees in our world and their role in the flavors we savor. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and insightful partner in Tom Rosemurgy and the Keweenaw Bee Company.
